What is Myopia Control?

Myopia Control is treatment available typically in school-aged children for slowing down or even stopping the progression of near-sightedness.  These treatment options are evidence based and have been shown to be effective in children.

Who is a candidate?

Myopia Control candidates are typically children or young adults with one or more of the following criteria:

  • myopia or low hyperopia
  • myopic parents
  • excessive near work
  • limited time spent outside

A thorough consultation with advanced instrumentations (and procedures measuring axial length, corneal curvature, pupil size, refractive status, etc...is recommended.  We provide the newest and broadest diagnostics and treatments options most notably :

  • Atropine therapy
  • Orthokeratology
  • Multifocal Contact Lenses
  • Outdoor activities
  • Spectacles

At times combined modes of treatment can be more effective. Retarding axial length growth is the primary marker for treatment of near sightedness.

The Ironwood Optometry Myopia Control Clinic is conveniently located in Ironwood Plaza in Richmond.  Please feel free to schedule a consultation with one of our certified optometrists.
